Current wrap on Mets and Nets: Saturday April 13 10:48 AM

At 6 and 4 the Mets are a mixed bag of good and bad signs …. Wright and Murphy along with Niece and Harvey are all good …  Buck is a huge plus thus far but we’ve all seen players bust out in spurts and then fall back to earth over time.

I am okay with Gee as the third starter but the last two Mets starters in the rotation simply suck ….. this represents a big hole in the teams prospects.

Barring any injuries Murphy is showing signs of a career year …. particularly in extra base hits .. while his fielding has noticeably improved

It’s too soon to judge Duda and Davis … early signs are that they will each hit over 20 home runs and drive in 70 to 80 runs … if either or both can hit for average that will boost the Mets run production significantly.

Potentially helpful wild cards are down in the minors and on the bench … the bullpen is to be determined.

Wright is the new team captain and the anchor and if he goes down the post season possibilities will tank along with him …

Hopefully Wrights team mates will allow him to concentrate on his above average fielding, hitting and running .. and just let the home runs happen without any pressure on Wright to fill power voids.

The Nets have cemented fourth seed in the playoffs with an outside chance of third seed ..

in all likelihood the Nets will make it thru the first round … from there forward it will be a matter of will more than raw talent.

The Nets have developed a poise which has become more evident in the second half of the season …. of late they are recovering from in game set backs very well and showing resilience and determination … two ingredients necessary to go deep in the playoffs.

While Wallace is under performing the bench isn’t … Blatche is a standout, Watson is steady and Humphries is rock solid. Marshon Brooks adds an instant offensive X factor to the mix and Stackhouse and Bogan are golden.

Lopez is the best center in the NBA and shows visible signs of improvement, almost from game to game.

Joe Johnson’s dependable post up game nicely complements Derek Williams outside and inside game.

When the Nets fail it is due to lack of energy and concentration …  Evans has been a huge factor on the boards and on defense … while surprising everyone with his aggressive and effective offensive play.

Mets look different but play the same

The first four games of the NY Mets season mirrors the last four seasons.

The first words that come to mind are “mediocrity” and “playing 500 ball” as of their latest Friday night loss to Miami which was Miami’s first win of the new season.

How ironic that one of the ex-Mets who would have propelled the Mets into the playoffs in twenty twelve was traded from insignificant Miami to obscure Toronto.

Some might argue that Jose Reyes chose money, insignificance and obscurity over the Mets … while in truth it was the Mets ownership who chose money over Reyes, Beltran & Pagan and a possible Championship.

The footprints of Bernie Maddoff are all over the Mets fans and players backs …..

Mets ownership has no respect for the game of baseball nor the Mets fans and players whom they take for granted.

Did the ownership have “no choice”?.

I’d be curious to hear what the Mets told David Wright when they succeeded in resigning him.

Wright’s problem is that he’s also a fan of the Mets … and Mets management knows it.

After four games there’s no reason to panic. The Mets are loaded with enough young talent that they are pitching deep … protecting the team against poor performance and injuries on the pitching side.

All early signs point to a better than average offensive team and to a spotty defensive team.

Is David Wrights star power enough to replace Reyes, Beltran and Pagan.

No.

Can the Mets success on the field erase the ill effects of Mets management financially induced single minded off the field rebuilding project?

Probably not.

It will be a long season of hope …. perhaps if fans are lucky it will come down to the wire.

But one thing is certain, it will be profitable.

Dickey, Santana, players bail out Met’s management, ownership :2012 season lost

Dickey’s 20th win just served to remind me how the Met’s organization has gotten away with stealing a season from the fans and pocketing the results. The more cynical among us will say “it’s a business” but I say it’s … Continue reading
